More Information

The Spear was developed with the UK-based Aerocoach team, using CFD throughout and 280,000 data sets from the Silverstone wind tunnel across 37 optimisation iterations. It was tested alongside the Tarmac SL8 on a controlled build of Zipp 404 wheels, 28c Pirelli tubeless tyres and a Dura-Ace Di2 groupset.

The Wind Eye design on the seat stay tidies the turbulence behind the bike, saving about 2.66W at 40 km/h against a frame without it (CFD). It also filters road vibration: vertical compliance is 23% higher than the Seka Exceed, with up to 17mm of seatpost flex.

The frame is formed in one mould with True-One-Piece Molding, so there are no glued joints, using TeXtreme and ultra-high-modulus pitch-based carbon fibre built up from 350 carbon pieces, with PMI foam core in selected areas. The RDC raw frameset weighs just 685g, which Seka says is 90g lighter than the Exceed RDC.

The matching Rapier integrated handlebar is tailor-made for the Spear: 19 specifications, a −6° stem, 76mm reach and 127mm drop, with flared drops for sprinting and improved internal routing. With seven geometries, 19 handlebar sizes and two seatpost setbacks, most riders have two or three sizes to choose from to suit their riding style.

RDC and Standard Versions

The Spear RDC and Standard share the same geometry, aero design and standards. RDC is the lightest version at 685g raw frameset weight, while the Standard version is 780g (weights vary by paint and size). This listing is the RDC version; the Standard version is listed separately.
