More Information

The EXAR Ultra is Magene's premium disc-brake wheelset. The front wheel is lower and the rear is deeper, which keeps steering easy to control while the rear adds stability and aero benefit. DB405 (40mm front, 45mm rear) is aimed at climbing, DB508 (50/58mm) balances climbing and cruising, and DB607 (60/67mm) is aimed at fast, flat cruising.

Both the rims and the spokes are HI-MOD carbon. VONOA carbon spokes weigh just 2.8 g each; Magene states they are about 30% lighter and stronger in tension than top-end steel spokes, with hidden metal fittings and a shape that reduces wind resistance. Hubs have an optimised flange diameter to reduce stress at the spoke contact points, smoothed bearing edges, and ceramic bearings to reduce friction.

The 23mm internal width gives a flatter tyre profile for aero and comfort, and suits 28–32c tyres. The wheelset works with tubeless and clincher tyres, with tubeless rim tape and rim plugs included, and is designed to run with TPU inner tubes. The bare carbon rim has passed a 40 J UCI impact test.
